Finding Your Calling (Gage Siler)

One of the most challenging things to deal with in life is figuring out what you are going to do with it. What is your "purpose"? This page will serve to provide information and maybe some tips and tricks to find your calling, or how to find something in life that you enjoy.

Break the Loop

One of the biggest challenges facing people who want to find their calling is routine. Oftentimes, people get comfortable in their daily events. They get up, do the same steps day in and day out. Before they know it, years have gone by, and they may feel regret.

Don't let yourself "settle" for a job you are "comfortable" with. The question needs to be asked if this current state of your life is what you really want. Can you do better? Do you want to make a statement? Then you may have to break the circle that your life has become.

Spice up your daily routine. Do something different once and awhile. Take a trip somewhere you've never been. Go to a type of show you wouldn't normally see. Experiment, for that is the only way to discover things you enjoy.

Take Advice from the Past

If you are up a creek on what you think your life/career path should be, take a few moments to sit down and think about your past.

I don't mean to think about what you and your friends did last weekend, or what you had for breakfast. I mean for you to think back to certain instances in your life where you may have felt happy.

What were you doing at that time? Did you see something that interested you at first glance? Take these happenings and build off them. There may be a reason why you felt elated at those points in your life. If you do not feel that way today, maybe take advice from the past you, and revisit those things.

Avoid Distractions

Another thing to help you with finding your calling in life is to aviod excessive distractions. Television, video games, and other things that people use as distractions are great in moderation, however an issue occurs when these things take from productivity. Not just school or work productivity, but mental and life productivity.

Oftentimes we use these items to give ourselves distraction from the real world, which is great, we all need a break sometimes. Here's the thing, if you were doing something in your life that you truely enjoyed and had a passion for, these items would have a minimal presence in your life. Instead, you would be more focused on that thing that you are passionate about. Maybe what you need to do the next time you want to binge a Netflix show "because you're bored", you could do some research online and into yourself to find something new that you can get interested in.
