This workshop focuses on the technical and communication elements of editing audio files. In it, you will create a coherent instruction set from a scrambled audio file and a selection of royalty-free theme music.
This workshop requires you to edit an audio file that I have deliberately recorded with the content out of sequence. Your tasks are to unscramble the content using basic audio editing processes, record a 10 second introduction to your edited file, and to add theme music from a collection of royalty-free tracks.
I provided 3 files through SVSU Canvas to support your work on this assignment. The first is an mp3 file that includes a brief overview of the workshop, and then presents content in scrambled order. The second file provides links to instructional videos that introduce editing techniques on 3 different audio production platforms: Audacity, Adobe Audition, and Techsmith Camtasia. The final file provides links to 3 source site for royalty-free music.
By design, you will invest the most time initially in the second file. Select your audio production tool based on availability. If you have access to Adobe Audition, I highly recommend that option. If you do not have access to it, then I would consider Audacity as your best second option. Audacity is freeware and cross-platform. You can access it at AudacityTeam.org/.
Of course, if you already know basic audio editing techniques, you can skip this step, and move directly into the other prep.
Once you feel ready to begin, then I recommend that you listen to the workshop podcast file (mp3), and then search for some royalty-free music. By the way, I can tell you from experience that it is easy to get lost in the music search. The sites for which I have provided links offer music for use in noncommercial ventures. You do not have to draw your theme music from these sources, but you must use music that is either royalty free or that you recorded (and to which you also hold the copyright).
If you listened to the workshop podcast, you know that the work itself is relatively straightforward. It requires that you complete the following tasks.
If you are not sure what to say in your recorded introduction, you may use the following script.
Hey Dr. Bill, this is [insert your name here], and this is my workshop submission.
When you save your file for submission, use the filename Lastname_AudioEditingWorkshop.mp3.
Post your audio file to the forum dedicated to this workshop on Canvas Discussions with a brief introduction where you identify your theme music by song and source. For example, my class videos use the track "Hubbub" from Purple-Planet.com. Attach your edited workshop mp3 your post.
This section describes the standards by which your work will be evaluated for this workshop. Attend carefully to these details. If you do so, you will earn full credit for the workshop.
There are 50 possible points for this workshop. I will award points according to this standard.
