Software: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Concept: I was tasked with creating an eye-catching design concept for four career fairs hosted by Saginaw Valley State University’s Career Services. These fairs target different student groups, including Accounting, Finance, Manufacturing, IT, and Education majors. To appeal to a diverse student audience, I adopted a retro-minimalism theme, using icons to create a visual focus while maintaining the integrity of the typography. This approach aligns with current design trends that resonate with younger audiences, making the posters both functional and appealing.
Description: The final designs were produced in multiple formats: 8.5”x11” flyers, 18x24” posters, and 17”x11” electronic TV slides, distributed across campus. I selected pastel versions of the university’s brand colors to complement the retro-minimalist aesthetic. The icons used for each fair were tailored to represent the specific industries, creating an immediate visual connection for students. The design approach allowed for flexibility across different formats while ensuring consistency in style.
Discipline: The project disciplines included advertising, graphic design, and typography. The retro-minimalism theme guided the overall design, with a strong emphasis on clear, impactful typography to convey essential details about each fair. The use of bold type choices ensured that important information stood out, while the minimalist approach kept the design visually engaging and aligned with the intended aesthetic.
Client: The project was completed for the Office of Career Services and had a measurable positive impact. Attendance at the fairs increased by 19% compared to the previous year, with many students responding positively to the posters and flyers around campus. The client was particularly pleased with the clean, professional appearance of the designs, which successfully attracted more attention to the events.
