Four Main Aspects of the Course

 

1) Two Exercises

The two exercises are…

E1 - Individual Research (Typography Research)

One of the most important aspects of typography is learning to avoid the errors commonly made by those untrained in typography. This is introduced as an exercise and reinforced with every project.

E2 - Web Typography (Using HTML and CSS like InDesign)

We will use code to make a web page. The focus will be on the coding the typeface.

 
 

2) Four Main Projects

Through these four projects you will develop you InDesign skills. In particular, you will master Character Styles and Paragraph Styles. This will allow you to format multiple page documents quickly.

The four projects are…

P1 - The SVSU Symposium Booklet

P2 - The Literacy Link Magazine

P3 - The MI Arts Brochure

P4 - A Trifold Flyer (several options to pick from)

 
 

3) Four Typography Quizzes

Typography is far more than a mastery of InDesign. There are all kinds of details related to type, letters, classifications, etc. We learn these details through a study of the quiz materials.
